The meaning of domestic partner may also differ from one employer to other like one include same-sex couples, unmarried opposite-sex, and law marriages. Others includes same-sex partners on the terms that opposite-sex couples will receive spousal benefits by getting married, while same-sex couples will miss this option.
No matter how the term is defined, employers normally require domestic partners to sign an affidavit stating that they are in committed mutual relationship.
